Technical information
This version of the IST website was made available on June 16th 2009, In this third version, in addition to new contents and a reformulation of its design, we rethought the website architecture and the information design with the purpose of improving the usage experience of the website users.
The IST website means all the pages with a url linked as follows: http://www.ist.utl.pt
Web Standards and Accessibility
The Web Standards are aimed at creating a common "vocabulary" which may be compatible by the different browsers and other types of web navigation software. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) develops the technologies (specifications, guides, software and tools) making the Web reach its true potential.
We also use some microformats to give semantic relevance to an array of data that may be exported and used in another context (contact information, events calendar, etc). Microformats also have negligible support– since nowadays it is necessary to make use of specific plugins – but the trend is that a new generation of browsers to privilege the integration of this type of formats.
Most of the pages of the IST official website comply with the W3C Web Standards. The languages used by the IST website are the XHTML in terms of mark-up and CSS in terms of layout. Thus, considering the good professional practices in force in this area and in the legislation in force, we tried to comply with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 1.0 which are aimed at making the web accessible to people with disabilities.
We want the IST website to comply with the AAA guideline level (maximum level) in a progressive manner.
